Why Should You Understand the Three Management Perspectives?

Effective Management Perspectives and leadership training in Melbourne and Sydney

While many managers often concentrate solely on their immediate tasks, it’s crucial for effective management to grasp these three distinct perspectives.

The Three Management Perspectives

Firstly, the Strategic Perspective. This is about understanding your yearly goals, typically mapped out from July to June the next year. It involves long-term planning and setting the direction for your team.

Secondly, the Tactical Perspective. Think of this as your monthly blueprint. At the start of each month, it’s vital to know what your team needs to achieve by month’s end.

Lastly, the Operational Perspective. This involves what you and your team need to accomplish daily and weekly, especially on Monday mornings when setting the tone for the week is crucial.

I urge you to pay more attention to your tactical perspective. Take a moment to look at your calendar. What’s the date today? How far into the month are we? What’s left to be done before the month ends?

Consider these questions:

  1. Did you allocate time at the end of the last month for planning this month?
  2. Have you discussed this month’s objectives with your team, particularly those who report directly to you?
  3. Have you asked your team, especially supervisors and team leaders, about their goals for the month?
  4. Are your major goals displayed prominently, like on a whiteboard, for daily and weekly reference?
  5. In meetings with key team members, do you incorporate your monthly goals into the discussions?

To be a more effective manager, it’s important to think tactically and prioritize what needs to be achieved in the coming month. Implement these strategies, and I look forward to sharing more insights in the next article.
